Malaysian official greets partners in YVR
Malaysia’s minister of tourism recently visited Vancouver to experience the Olympic Games and meet with key partners and media. The meeting part of the mission was accomplished at Vancouver’s award-winning Banana Leaf Restaurant, where Dr. Ng Yen Yen presided over a quick review of Malaysian tourism promotion efforts, in Canada and around the world. “Truthfully, we haven’t been focussing much on Canada,” said the minister, noting that promotional efforts were more intensely directed at the emerging markets of China and India. Malaysia welcomed 23.65 million visitors last year, of which 40% were from Singapore, and just 88,000 from Canada. Big jumps have been posted by European countries like Germany and the Netherlands.
